Location
The Pagos del Rey winery in Olmedillo de Roa controls practically half the vineyards of the production area of DO Ribera del Duero in the surrounding twenty square kilometres. Road communication is excellent with Roa, the headquarters of the Regulating Council, at just over ten kilometres and Aranda de Duero at twenty kilometres.

The land under DO Ribera del Duero is located in the north plateau where four provinces of Castilla y León converge: Burgos, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid. The Duero river is the axle which links over 100 towns spread out along a grape-producing strip measuring 115 km long and 35 km wide. Today sixty municipalities from the province of Burgos, four from Segovia, nineteen from Soria and nineteen from Valladolid form part of DO Ribera del Duero.

There are currently nearly two hundred wineries in this production area, which indicates the importance of this DO today, especially when bearing in mind the decline suffered during the 17th and 18th centuries when the vineyards were literally abandoned.
