The Pagos del Rey winery in DO Ribera del Duero is located in the town Olmedillo de Roa, Burgos, in the centre of Ribera del Duero.
The construction of the first winery of Pagos del Rey, S.L. dates back to 2002, the same year as its first harvest. Its location in Olmedillo de Roa is not a coincidence, as the Solís family have strong family ties in this zone.
The winery mixes the modernity of its facilities and outward appearance with sobriety and plays on the solidity of the structure and its luminosity, result of its privileged hilltop position in the heart of this region.
The brightness of the winery reception area, measuring 15,000 square metres of which 9,010 is constructed, gives way to the darkness of the crianza cellar and the place where all wineries dedicated to quality wines house their main asset: the barrel cellar.
Today the barrel cellar of Pagos del Rey in Ribera del Duero is comprised of a total of 8,000 oak barrels with the capacity for 225 litres. The barrels are made of 80% American oak staves and 20% French oak. A totally automated train serves to handle the barrels which can deal with 25 to 30 barrels an hour.
The winery’s output capacity is approximately 7.5 million litres, although during the first few years no more than five million bottles have been produced. The bottling train has an output of 8,000 bottles an hour.
